Black Country Skills Factory celebrate their first completed course.

The Black Country Skills Factory have recently completed their first phase of bite sized courses and have been happy to see a number of businesses take advantage of the fully funded training on offer. The courses are aimed at upskilling employees to meet the specific skills needs of their business and due to the unique way the courses are co-funded by the European Social Fund and the Skills Funding Agency, they come at no cost to the employer.

One such business is Boplan UK Ltd. Based at the Wolverhampton Science park, Boplan manufacture and produce polymer barrier systems. With a head office in Belgium, this UK arm employs 3 people and are looking at plans to expand.

David Smith is the UK Sales Manager and has recently completed a 3 day course in Autocad. Before taking on the course, he was an absolute beginner with no previous experience of the specialist software package but after just one bite sized course, David was able to produce technical designs which were relevant to his everyday business need.

After successfully completing his course, David said "This training course has been brilliant. It hasn’t cost me anything to take part and I’ve come away with some skills that will have a massive impact on my business. Being in such a small team, it’s essential that I know every facet of the work that we do and this course has expanded my knowledge immensely. I would urge anyone who’s thinking of signing up for a bite sized course, to do it!”

The Autocad course was held at Wolverhampton Science park and was delivered by David Nixon. David has an extensively knowledge of Autocad with a background in architecture and engineering.

He said "The Skills Factory bite sized courses are great for businesses of all size. The classes are kept quite small so we’re really able to tailor the training to the specific business need. In this instance, David Smith from Boplan was able to incorporate a design he’d been given at work into his learning so it’s great that we can get really specific and send these people back to the workplace with knowledge that they just won’t learn anywhere else”

Colin Parker, Skills Factory director said "It’s great to see our first satisfied customer and I just know that David has come away with skills that will stay with him forever. The Skills Factory is engaging with employees all over the Black Country to deliver bite sized courses that are not only fully funded, but are also on topics that will help bridge the skills gap”

Other courses run by the Black Country Skills Factory include topics on Excel, LEAN, welding and Vehicle maintenance. To find out more, log on to www.blackcountryskillsfactory.co.uk/courses
